Benjamin Salling established Salling & Co. in 2023 after working with some of the country's most respected traditional architects and planners, including Robert A.M.Stern, Peter Pennoyer, Ferguson Shamamian, Patrick Ahearn, and Duany Plater-Zyberk. His experience working with these firms led him to found a practice based on client-centered contextual design grounded in the belief that the best places result from thoughtful collaboration between the client, the architect, and highly qualified consultants.
We use modern technology to deliver an exciting and collaborative process to our clients and are continuously striving to improve the client experience through research and development. Our broad background working on various projects means we bring a unique and well-rounded perspective to everything we do. Benjamin Salling, AIA, has worked in architecture and design for over twenty-three years. Through numerous collaborations with some of the nation's most respected design firms, he has built a deep understanding of the built environment.
Ben developed an early appreciation for the power of architecture and traditional town planning methods as he watched his hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee, undergo a significant transformation during the early 1990s. Summers spent in the Florida Panhandle meant he also witnessed the rise of New Urbanism at developments including Seaside and Rosemary Beach. These formative experiences inspired Ben to pursue an education based on traditional architecture and town planning methods at theUniversity of Miami. Ben began his career in the office of the school's dean –Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, DPZ.
Turning his focus to architecture, Ben later accepted a position in New York with Robert A.M. Stern Architects in2006, where he spent several years working primarily as a designer on over thirty projects at various scales around the world. Determined to have a well-rounded set of life and work experiences, Ben has also worked with Ferguson & Shamamian Architects, Peter Pennoyer Architects, and Patrick Ahearn Architect.
Ben currently maintains licenses in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and Florida; and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), facilitating rapid reciprocal registration in most locations throughout the US and Canada.
D'Ann grew up in New Orleans, LA, with a father in the US Diplomatic Corp. Her hometown and extensive travels all coalesced to inspire an early and ongoing interest in art and architecture.
Her curiosity and love of learning led her to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Louisiana State University, a Master of Science from the University of Texas, a Master of Architecture from the University of Miami, and studies in Art and Architectural History from the American University of Paris.
A trained architectural designer, D'Ann has experience working on renovations to Manhattan apartments, renovations, and additions to historic homes from Palm Beach to Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as a ground-up equestrian estate in Connecticut. D'Ann and Ben attended the University of Miami together and were colleagues at Ferguson Shamamian in New York.
D'Ann has been instrumental in the launch of Salling & Co. and is excited to help grow the practice. She also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami.
